The Neighborhood:
This is a very convenient neighborhood for shopping, cafes, attractions and just general hanging out. Everything is an easy walk…the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Le Marais, Saint Sulpice, St. Germain des Pres, Boulevard St. Germain, Jardin de Luxembourg, Musee de Luxembourg, Ile Saint Louis, Notre Dame, Les Tuileries, Les Invalides, Les Halles, Pantheon, L’Orangerie,…You can also walk to the Eiffel Tower and le Palais de Tokyo, Musee d’Art Moderne de la ville de Paris, Rodin Museum but may want to take the Metro/RER.
Getting to/from the airport:
With the Express RER from St. MIchel, you can get to CDG in 45 minutes. Add the ten minute walk to St. Michel from the apartment, and CDG can be less than an hour away. Orly is a similar distance but takes about 10-15 minutes longer.
Metro:
A few options: Odeon – M10, M4: St. Michel - M4, RER, Mabillon – M10, and Pont Neuf – M7 are closest. Also RER B and C from St. Michel. RER C goes to Versailles. RER B to ORY and CDG.
Shopping for Groceries and Food:
There’s a Carrefour Market on Place Buci (Buci Square)) 5 minutes away. A flagship Monoprix on Rue de Rennes on the other side of Blvd. St. Germain across from Les Deux Magots, a newer Monoprix in Les Halles, and an organic market just opposite “passage Dauphine” called La Vie Claire. And another perhaps better organic market called Bio’ C Bon. There’s a good boulangerie for baguettes, etc. a few doors away. Walk a little further toward Odeon and you will see Maison Kayser on the right---even better! Also check out Picard just before Bio ‘C Bon. They only sell frozen food and it is quite good and convenient.
Don’t miss le Marche St. Germain on the other side of Blvd. St. Germain. The covered market is great and there is a Marks and Spencer food as well. (Yes, Apple and Uniglo too)
On Saturdays there is an awesome farmers market year round on Blvd. St. Germain at the Maubert/Mutualite Metro stop, a 15 minute walk. It now seems to be open Sundays too and some weekdays.
Also perhaps the best market and most interesting to see is the Marche D’Alaigre. It is a bit of a hike near the Republique but definitely worth the trip. The small covered portion is closed on Mondays but the actual market radiates out through the surrounding streets and is the real show. Would highly recommend going if even just for the experience. For the best way to get just GPS the name.
Cafes/Bars: Many to choose from on Place Buci and on Boulevard St. Germain. Two iconic places on Blvd. St. Germain are Les Deux Magots and Café des Flores. Try Chez Nous on rue Dauphine just before you get to the Seine. A really great wine bar with good charcuterie/snacks. My favorite sports bar is The Moose, a five minute walk on the other side of Blvd. St. Germain for American Football, Hockey, etc.
Restaurants:
So many…but three notable ones in the neighborhood are: Thai-Khao on rue Dauphine, Ze Kitchen Galerie (Michelin one-star), Semilla. Others nearby but a bit of a walk are Terra Nera (Italian…near the Pantheon) and a great traditional café opposite le jardin du Luxembourg called Au Petit Suisse.
Other Attractions:
Places to go just because: Monmartre, Place Pigalle, Bastille, Arc de Triomphe, Canal St. Martin (hipster neighborhood), Promenade Plantee (reputed to be the model for the Highline in NYC), Les Buttes Chaumond Parc Monceau, Place de la Republique. Shopping, Le BHV! And of course, the new La Samaritaine!
Stayed over a week
Jeff's flat in Paris was fantastic. The location was 10/10. Such a magical part of the city. We loved the midnight strolls along the Seine and lively Rue De Buci. There are tons of amazing restaurants, cafes, and bakeries right outside. This is truly the quintessential part of Paris.
The apartment itself is very nice, and incredibly well stocked. It was perfect for a long term stay. You can tell this is a home, more than a rental property.
A few important things to note:
1. The wifi is very fast and reliable
2. The apartment is on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator
3. There is no AC but there are ceiling fans. And Paris is cool at night (only a problem 2 nights out of our month stay in August)
4. There are desks in both bedrooms so it is easy to work in both
5. The windows are very sound proof so the apartment is nice & quiet
6. There is a grocery store 4 minute walk away
I would definitely return back! Thank you Jeff for an incredible experience.
Stayed over a week
Jeff’s apartment was wonderful. It was well stocked for a long term stay! Location couldn’t have been better. Walkable to all major museums, monuments etc! Close to grocery store, pharmacies and lots of restaurants! We felt for a short time like Parisian’s!
Our host was very responsive from the very beginning, and check in was a breeze. We have stayed in Paris many times but this unit was especially spacious for the two of us, and can easily accommodate more. The location was perfect for easy access to almost everything on foot. Being there in the summer we took previous reviewers advice and used the rear bedroom (also very good size) and opened the courtyard window for cooling, it was also a quieter room for sleeping. Thank you Jeff and Beatrice!
Where do I start, if I could leave a 10 star review I would. Especially for the location, if it isn’t said in his other reviews this is literally the best spot in Paris. Our family, my husband myself and our two daughters 5 and 8 years old stayed here for five weeks. We fit perfectly in the apartment, it is bigger than shown in the pictures. We came and went at least 4 to 6 times a day and the beautiful fun spiral staircase was never a problem for any of us. We spent nights at the river on one end of the street and at the other end what we called our “fun Street”, a lively Parisian amazing Street. There are multiple amazing windows on the street that we spent so much time looking out and just loving where we were. The kitchen is amazing fully stocked with everything you need to cook!dishwasher, which we never used once… so easy to hand wash the dishes and convenient in the sink with the window overlooking the little courtyard. The washer dryer combo came in handy for a family of four and worked perfectly. We French pressed our coffee every single morning and just totally enjoyed our experience in this apartment. I don’t know how to say enough about our summer here! I mean I wish we were there now! Oh, I am a mad person when I am hot haha the fans made it perfect even on the hot summer days, the curtains are thick and we would close them in the day to keep the sun/heat out and open everything for the breeze as soon as it cooled down! Easy and nice Thanks again Jeff, I do hope we can return someday!
We had a fabulous stay in Jeff’s apartment. It is extremely comfortable, attractive and quiet, and everything works well. We felt very much at home. The kitchen is well organized and has everything required for casual or serious cooking, and the appliances are in great condition – like new. The bedrooms are quiet and lovely. The best thing about the apartment is that it makes it possible to feel like you are a Parisian, which is just how we wanted to spend our week. We shopped at local outdoor and indoor markets and assembled breakfasts with good coffee, pastries, cheeses, eggs, fresh yogurt, baguettes, etc. We also mixed in eating dinner at home and eating out at great local restaurants. As Jeff’s website describes, the location is super, and an easy walk to many sites. Just step outside, and it’s Paris. Both Jeff and Beatrice were very responsive and helpful. We could not be more pleased, and plan to return!
Jeff’s apartment is beautiful, stylish and very comfortable. It is modern and classic at the same time, very well placed (at the heart of Quartier Latin) and very complete: the kitchen has all the items, there are all sorts of cleaning items, from vacuum cleaner to dish machine. It is properly a home. Due to its dimensions, it is fully recommended for a family! Jeff is a very attentive host, he answers messages very quickly.
Amazing stay, great flat, great host, super high quality kitchen and bathroom. Amazing Area.
This is a beautiful Parisian apartment in a wonderful central area. There is so much to do, see and eat all within walking distance, and three Metro stations very close by. I would highly recommend!
Excellent location with restaurants and shops around, yet the flat Is quiet. Very clean and comfy and spacious. Accurate pictures. Very prompt email messages and clear check in instructions. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and helpful and flexible. I’ve rented other flats in Paris but this will be my first choice when I visit again.
Super location! We were able to walk to all of the places we wanted to go...Louvre, Orsay, Eiffel Tower, Montmatre, and even to Are de Triomphe. Lots of eateries and bakeries right out the door. Having washing machine was very helpful. Apartment was nice and warm. Good shower & hot water. We were visiting during the Transport strike but it was easy to take a cab from CDG. We had a trouble reserving a cab to the airport due to language skills(no French) and cab company’s website issue but Beatrice was super helpful. We had an early flight and the cab showed up right on time. Really enjoyed the stay!
Jeff is an excellent host. Our stay was wonderful! Check-in was very easy. The apartment was so lovely, clean and had all the amenities we could need. The location is spectacular!!! Pont Neuf, The Louvre, Musee D’Orsay; all a short walk. Fantastic neighborhood with an abundance of cafes, brasseries, restaurants and international eating options to choose from. Galleries and shops all around. We will return!!
-The neighborhood location is great. The metro is close by, access to the city's wonderful sights is easy by train.
-Safe neighborhood, lots of little cafes, restaurants, markets, boulangeries, boutiques, second hand stores, etc. There is something for everyone. Lots of different types of restaurants, including some vegetarian and vegan options on the menus.
-The apartment size is luxurious, with a large common area living room and very functional kitchen. The kitchen has a nice-sized frig, working stove and everything need to eat in if you wish. The master bath is big with a soaking tub/shower combo and long makeup vanity. The small shared toilet is separate in the hall area off the kitchen by the front door.
